2013 Land Rover Range Rover Release date, Price, Interior, Exterior, Engine. - Its been ten years since its last thorough makeover, but for 2013 the Land Rover Range Rover gets what is probably the most radical reinvention of its long and storied life. Its a change that stretches its street talents to sedan levels, even as its off roading capability ups several antes through the miracle of electronics.
Its all because of aluminum. The Range Rovers had aluminum body panels for a while, but now its made of the stuff to its core and that means a roughly 700-pound weight loss, which permeates the way the Range Rover drives, and to a lesser extent, how much gas it consumes. Just as hurricane Sandy was ravaging Americas east coast, a separate freak storm was lashing Morocco on the diagonally opposite African shores of the Atlantic Ocean with horizontal rains strong enough to provoke flash flooding and to wreak havoc on arid Moroccos coastal roadways. Such weather would surely spell disaster for most new vehicle launch programs, but it merely heightened the experience of our first drive in Land Rovers all new, all aluminum Range Rover.
The Land Rover Range Rover gave a wide, laid-back grin to the Paris Motor Show. Only the fourth change in body style in 41 years, this one has finally been given some angles and curves and a bit of rake, still certifiably a Range Rover but theres more going on than were used to. Luckily it has more cargo room so it can carry around the haul of commentary its looks have gathered, such as the polarizing headlight and taillights reminiscent of a Ford Explorer, the three-slat vent motif on the front doors and the actual and slightly fussy vents on the front bumper
Some standard and available features are Terrain Response 2, which can see them through any Hamptons horse trail ruts, less switchgear so that one can focus on being seen, a 29-speaker and 1,700 watt sound system to drown out the other Earthlings, 22-inch wheels to better look down upon them, and an eight-speed transmission and massive weight drop so the help wont have to fill up as often and can be home sooner with the brioche.
Land Rover wasnt going to mess with that formula, and it hasnt. Despite the diet, its still the ultimate luxury off roader dispatching challenging terrain, dispatched to nights at the opera. And it still hews to design attributes that have always made driving one a distinctive experience: the throne like, command driving position; the squared off, castellated front corners, the clamshell hood; the side gills, and the flying body colored roof.
2013 Land Rover Range Rover interior and exterior :
The 2013 Range Rover first looks long, but its lithe for an SUV. The stance reads lower and the roof pillars seem slimmer, from the sideview, the Range Rover has some crosscurrents with the Ford Flex, which has been roundly pointed out as a blend of Fairlane and Range Rover cues since it was introduced back in 2009.
The key clues as to the Range Rovers freshness are in the front end: LED headlamps are slimmer, and frame a trimmer mesh grille, over perfectly faired in fog lamps. Its one of the points where designers admit to dialing back the rugged SUV appeal, to warm up the Range Rovers appeal to luxury-sedan shoppers. Theres also a distinct callback in the way the sill line kicks up at the rear end; its more like the first Range Rovers that came to America under the brand name, back in the mid 1980s, and less like the blocky BMW era utes that followed. The tapering pulls a lot of visual weight out of the Range Rovers rear end, as does the silver finish along the sills that suggests the Range Rovers new aluminum core.
2013 Land Rover Range Rover Performance :
The body makes all those gains possible. The new Range Rover goes from a steel frame surrounded by aluminum body panels, to an SUV with a full aluminum frame thats riveted and bonded with aerospace glue, in the same way the Jaguar XK and XJ are constructed (not to mention most of the Boeing lineup). The suspensions also composed of cast- and forged aluminum pieces, while some body panels are twinned to composite liners to save even more weight. The net result is a 700 pound weight loss, when comparably equipped.
Depending on speed and traction modes, the Range Rover can vary steering and ride settings, giving it strong on center feel with more programmed in centering weight, for example. Its not particularly linear, as a result, but its a good solution for an SUV, as much for light parking lot effort as for effective highway tracking over a wide range of wheel and tire packages. In almost any circumstance, the Range Rover has mostly gentle ride motions and a substantial amount of body lean and ride softness purposely so, to avoid head toss of the kind weve seen in the competition. Its a languid, well damped feel thats more luxury sedan than ever. Large six piston front Brembo calipers, big front and rear disc brakes (15 and 14.4 inches in diameter) handle the Range Rovers curb weight of about 5300 pounds with ease.
